How Vemel Began: From a Personal Wellness Journey to Award Winning Waterless Organic Skincare

How Vemel Began: From a Personal Wellness Journey to Award-Winning Organic Skincare

Vemel launched in winter 2019 from founder and formulator Agi Miel’s deeply personal wellness journey. Today, that same philosophy has grown into an independently recognised organic skincare brand, proudly awarded more than 70 beauty and wellness awards while remaining rooted in waterless formulation, ingredient integrity and long-term skin health.

What began as a personal search for a more thoughtful approach to skincare has developed into an award-winning British organic skincare brand recognised with more than 70 independent beauty and wellness awards.

Launching a skincare brand was never simply about creating another moisturiser for Agi Miel.

Vemel began with a much more personal question:

Could skincare be effective, beautiful to use and sophisticated, while still being created around ingredient integrity and long-term skin health?

That question had been forming for years.

Agi had experienced severe endometriosis and undergone three operations within twelve months. Her son had struggled with eczema, and she later supported her mother through breast cancer.

These experiences changed the way she looked at wellbeing.

She began paying closer attention to food, lifestyle, environmental exposure and the products her family used every day.

Skincare became part of that journey.

Not because skincare could solve complex health conditions - it cannot, but because Agi believed that the products applied every day should be chosen with the same thought and care we increasingly give to other areas of wellness.

That belief eventually became Vemel Organic Skincare.

Skincare without unnecessary complication

When Agi began developing Vemel, the beauty industry was moving in the opposite direction.

More steps.

More products.

More aggressive actives.

More promises.

Skincare routines were becoming increasingly complicated, while people with sensitive or reactive skin were often left trying to work out which product had caused the latest problem.

Agi wanted to strip that thinking back.

Vemel would focus on purposeful formulations designed to support the skin rather than constantly stimulate it.

That philosophy still guides the brand today:

Hydration. Barrier support. Nourishment. Then targeted actives.

Rather than encouraging skin to depend upon an ever-growing routine, Vemel focuses on helping it remain comfortable, balanced and resilient.

Why Vemel became waterless

One of Agi’s earliest formulation decisions was to move away from conventional water-heavy skincare.

Water is not inherently harmful in cosmetics. But Agi questioned why it should form the majority of a product when it could instead be formulated around ingredients selected specifically for their role within the skin.

Vemel therefore developed around a waterless formulation philosophy.

Instead of conventional added water used as a base or filler, formulas concentrate organic botanical oils, plant extracts, ferments, algae-derived biotechnology, skin-supportive lipids and carefully selected actives.

It means we can create concentrated products intended to be used in relatively small amounts.

It is an approach that remains fundamental to Vemel today.

Organic, but not old-fashioned

Natural skincare sometimes carries the assumption that it must be simple botanical skincare with little scientific sophistication.

Vemel was created to challenge that idea.

Agi wanted organic botanicals and modern biotechnology to sit side by side.

Today our formulations may combine ingredients such as organic plant oils and CO2 extracts with clinically studied biotech actives, ferments, plant stem cells, probiotic-derived ingredients.

Every ingredient should have a reason for being there.

That combination allows us to create formulas that feel rooted in nature while addressing modern concerns including hydration, collagen support, skin barrier function, microbiome balance, uneven tone and skin resilience.

Supporting skin rather than fighting it

The modern skincare industry often focuses on fixing, stripping, peeling and correcting.

Vemel approaches ageing differently.

We are proudly pro-ageing.

Ageing skin does not need to be fought. It needs to be understood and supported.

As skin changes, it may produce fewer lipids, retain moisture less effectively, become more reactive and experience visible changes in firmness and elasticity.

Our role is to formulate intelligently around those changes.

That means supporting hydration and the skin barrier, replenishing lipids, protecting resilience and using targeted actives without unnecessarily overwhelming the skin.

It is a philosophy built around long-term skin health rather than short-term aggression.

Radical transparency

Agi also wanted customers to understand the products they were buying.

Vemel has therefore developed around a commitment to ingredient transparency.

We do not want customers to have to decode deliberately confusing marketing language or assume that the word “natural” automatically tells them everything about a formulation.

Instead, we aim to explain our ingredients, their purpose and the evidence behind them clearly.

Our formulas contain no added parfum or synthetic perfume, and we prioritise organic botanical ingredients wherever appropriate.

As Vemel has developed, we have also increasingly incorporated clinically studied biotechnology ingredients where they genuinely improve the performance of a formulation.

Natural and scientific are not opposites.

For us, the strongest skincare combines the best of both.

Sustainability beyond packaging

Sustainability was another important part of Vemel from its beginning.

Waterless concentrated formulas, thoughtful routines, recyclable and plastic-conscious packaging, small-batch UK manufacturing and multifunctional products all form part of that approach.

But sustainability also means questioning the assumption that consumers constantly need more.

We would rather help someone create a small routine that works than convince them they need ten unnecessary products.

This idea has become increasingly central to Vemel and to our wider Skin in Stillness philosophy: reducing overstimulation and allowing consistent, intelligent skincare to support skin over time.

From winter 2019 to today

When Vemel launched in winter 2019, Agi could not know exactly where the journey would lead.

What began as a personal search for a more thoughtful approach to skincare has developed into an award-winning British organic skincare brand recognised with more than 70 independent beauty and wellness awards.

But the purpose has remained remarkably consistent.

To create skincare with integrity.

To combine organic botanicals with modern biotechnology.

To formulate without unnecessary dilution.

To support sensitive and hormonally changing skin.

To prioritise the skin barrier and long-term resilience.

And to help people understand that achieving visible results does not require continually attacking the skin.

Vemel began with Agi questioning the conventional way skincare was made.

We are still asking those questions today.

Because better skincare does not always mean adding more. Sometimes it means choosing better.
